3 Hiking Trails To Try Near Landon of Cromwell

The autumn season has arrived and that means there’s no better time to head outdoors and experience the colors of Connecticut as leaves fall and fall crops pop up.

If you’re looking for a good way to spend time outdoors, Cromwell is surrounded by some of the best hiking trails and locations in the region.

Here are three places to go hiking this season near Landon of Cromwell.

Westfield Falls

Our first on the list is quite unique. While Westfield Falls’ trail offers one of the most incredible settings for a hike, the real show is the water falls.

Set 30 feet apart by a wall of trap rock, Westfield Falls consists of two drops, one being an 18-foot plunge while the other is a slightly smaller 15-foot horsetail. You can even swim in the swimming holes if the weather is warm enough.

River Highlands State Park

Nestled in a suburban landscape, River Highlands State Park is a quiet refuge with unmatched views of the Connecticut River. Lush with oak, beech and white pine trees, the hills of River Highlands can reach from 15 feet above sea level to 150 feet in some spots.

The real treat is to see the unforgettable views from one of the trail’s bluffs, which are highest at the northern end of the park, where you will find yourself over 130 feet above the river.

Giuffrida Park

A hiking fan favorite, Giuffrida Park offers a peaceful reservoir, a beautiful wetland and incredible views all around, especially from Lamentation Mountain and Chauncey Peak.

Be aware, this park has many “trap rock” ridges, which are very steep. Of course, there are also easier relatively level trails as well.
